In the nation-wide wake of complications due to contaminated medications distributed by compounding pharmacies, state public health officials in New Hampshire are investigating whether any medications recalled last week may have ended up inside state lines. A couple of weeks ago the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced voluntary recalls of all products compounded at Clinical Specialties Compounding Pharmacy and Med Prep Consulting due to “lack of sterility assurance.” This recall bares a striking similarity to the nationwide recall of the New England Compounding Center last year, and its multi-state outbreak of fungal infections due to contaminated drugs.
In New Hampshire alone fourteen cases of illness were linked to the New England Compounding Center outbreak, and although health officials have no reports of illness due to this most recent recall, they are still concerned with the possibility. Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis , the state epidemiologist, stated that “We know that the products did not come to New Hampshire, but there are still pending ones in which it could have, and we are trying to get more information, whether from the FDA or from the Board of Pharmacy
