As the landscape of veterinary medicine continues to change in response to medical advancements, drug shortages and FDA challenges, industry professionals must embrace a sink-or-swim state-of-being. With that in mind, one veterinary pharmacy has secured a spot on the cutting edge of the veterinary community. Diamondback Drugs has gone the extra mile, taking part in an extraordinary number of conferences this past Fall.
“We have always participated in veterinary conferences,” said Michael Blaire, co-founder of Diamondback Drugs. “Over the years, we’ve steadily increased our attendance, especially in the area of specialty practice. The continued education has been invaluable.”
“We’re learning about new therapies, meeting veterinarians from a number of different practice settings and getting them acquainted with the medications we are able to compound,” said Rory Albert, who co-founded the veterinary compounding pharmacy with Blaire. “With so many medications on backorder this year, we want to assure our clients that we are equipped to provide the best possible treatment.”
General conferences included the Southwest Veterinary Symposium, Sept. 23-26 in Fort Worth, Texas, the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association Convention, Oct. 7-10 in Madison, the Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference, Oct. 11-14 in Atlantic City, N.J., and the Wild West Veterinary Conference, Oct. 13-17 in Reno, Nev.
On the list of specialty conferences were the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Symposium, Sept. 11-14 in San Antonio, Texas, the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists Conference, Oct. 6-9 in San Diego, Calif., the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians Conference, Oct. 23-29 in Padre Island, Texas, and the Veterinary Cancer Society Conference, Oct. 20 through Nov. 1 in San Diego, Calif.
According to Blaire, the Diamondback Drugs comprehensive outlook toward conference participation is as progressive as their approach to veterinary compounding. “We saw competitors at these events, but never the same at every conference. While other veterinary pharmacies are picking and choosing, we’re doing everything.”
During the most recent string of conferences, the veterinary pharmacy also enjoyed quite a bit of the spotlight. “We received at least one mention at every show,” said Blaire.
Case in point, at the Veterinary Cancer Society Conference, Blaire said that Dr. Chelsea Tripp paid tribute to the compounding pharmacy in reference to a research project on low-dose Lomustine during her oncology residency at WSU Veterinary Hospital in Pullman, Wash. Diamondback Drugs was also recognized at the Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference as a source of Ronidazole, a crucial medication in the treatment of feline Tritrichomonas foetis infection.
“Our growing recognition as industry leaders is evidenced not only by our reputation in the veterinary community, but also by our ever-expanding number of satisfied clients,” said Blaire.
