Massachusetts Governor Wants Suprise Inspections; Will Other States Do the Same


From Pharmlot blog:  REPEATING FROM LAST NIGHT FOR THOSE WHO MISSED IT: In the wake of the scandal over the fungal meningitis outbreak, which has claimed 24 lives traced to a contaminated steroid made by the New England Compounding Center, Massachusetts Governor Duval Patrick wants state regulators to conduct surprise inspections of compounding pharmacies, The Boston Globe reports via Twitter.
The order comes as the state Department of Health issued preliminary findings from an investigation into NECC and authorized revoking its pharmacy licenses, as well as those for one of the owners and other key staff. These moves come after the state was criticized for not aggressively monitoring the compounder.
