NCPA Advocacy Center Provides update on Tricare's position regarding coverage of compounded medications

Recommendations made by the Panel towards the P&T Committee, included:
  • Would be beneficial to take a more in depth look into compounded medications, and how the civilian health care system is handling compounds
  • Search for evidence that there are adverse effects occurring from compounded medications
  • Look at how costs are calculated at individual pharmacies
  • Lack of implementation information  and notification to  beneficiaries needs to be addressed
  • Observation by Panel Chairman: The PA suggestion by the Committee seemed to be a hammer trying to fix the problem, rather than addressing the real problem
