Two different initiatives are taking aim at a major New Mexico problem – prescription drug overdoses.
U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez has announced an initiative that involves partnering with the University of New Mexico, Bernalillo County and others to lower the state’s high rate of drug overdose deaths through treatment, community organization and prison release programs.
The Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education Initiative, or HOPE, also will focus on prosecuting “rogue clinics and pharmacists” that illegally distribute prescription painkillers.
