Course Overview:
This program explores selected legal and practical issues in compounding pharmacy. In particular this program looks at changes in compounding after national recalls and deaths.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacist will be able to:

  • Discuss selected legal issues facing compounding pharmacies in the wake of new legislation.
  • Describe the recall process.
  • Consider the new roles of the compounding pharmacists and how to meet them.
  • Evaluate the impact of new legislation on compounding.
  • Discuss the role of federal and state government on compounding.
  • Discuss new board of pharmacy regulations in compounding.
At the conclusion of this continuing education lesson, the pharmacy technician will be able to:
  • Discuss selected legal issues facing compounding pharmacies in the wake of new legislation.
  • Describe the recall process and the role of the technician.
  • Consider the roles of the compounding technicians in the new environment. 
  • Evaluate the impact of new legislation on compounding.
  • Discuss the role of federal and state government on compounding.
  • Discuss new board of pharmacy regulations in compounding. 

This course is approved by ACPE for 2 PHARMACY LAW credits hours.

Kenneth R. Baker, R.Ph., J.D.


Ken is a pharmacist and a lawyer who consults in areas in which he has worked for over thirty years. He has written insurance policies and has designed quality assurance plans to reduce medication errors. Ken has taught pharmacy law and business law and has written and lectured nationally in the areas of risk management, pharmacy law and ethics.
