NECC Ordered to House and Senate Hearings


Committees in the House and Senate will hold separate hearings in the coming days to examine the deadly outbreak of fungal meningitis outbreak linked to the New England Compounding Center (NECC). The outbreak has been connected to the deaths of 32 people and 438 and illnesses, to date.
The House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is scheduled to convene Wednesday. The Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee hearing will take place the next day, the National Journal said.
Barry Cadden, president, co-owner and managing pharmacist at the Massachusetts compounding pharmacy, has been ordered to the meeting after being served a subpoena by the House Committee last week. The move became necessary when Cadden indicated that he would not appear at the hearing voluntarily, according to the National Journal.
