Wife's neurosurgeon prescribed some for back problems. Stuff has to be specially compounded and was shipped to us overnight from Texas.
Wife says it works like a champ and she is pain free for up to five hours at a time.

TRICARE explanation of benefits came and I almost shit. Two tubes, (135 grams each) was $2700.00. TRICARE paid them $2300.00

Pics of old lady with bad back not forthcoming.

I keep trying to get her to go to a vet, but she won't bite.

I think you (and Tricare) are getting hosed on the price. There are many compounding pharmacies out there, make some calls. IIRC, some compounds (your doc specifies the ingredients) run $60-100 per tube. Usually, it isn't just ketamine in these, some common co-compounds are Neurontin, lidocaine, an anti-inflammatory, amitriptyline, baclofen, etc. One thing to ask your doc is to instruct the compounding pharmacy on is what specific base material they want the cream made of. Some things suspend the meds for skin pain, while others allow/promote deeper penetration. There are multiple types of base and they all act (and cost) different amounts. When you are price shopping, you will need to specify the base to the pharmacy so they can adjust the price accordingly.

Good luck!
