On June 27, 2013, FDA announced a very large action to protect consumers against dangerous medications sold by Internet pharmacies. This week, the GAO issued a 55- page report pointing out that rogue sites are often difficult to investigate because they may be “composed of thousands of related websites, and operators take steps to disguise their identities.” Also a website can exist anywhere in the world and crossing jurisdictions. A couple of weeks earlier the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FDA had announced taking down numerous of these Internet pharmacies.
Hope DOJ and the FDA are also looking into the compounding Internet pharmacies, especially the ones that do veterinary compounding only, which have multiple layers and are disguising their identities.
