Policy: Pharmacy: Compounding
On occasion, it may be necessary to reformulate a medication into a more convenient form or strength for animal dosing. Requests for compounding can be made at the pharmacy during normal business hours. The following criteria will be used to assess whether the request is feasible:
1. Is the product already available in a similar form?
2. Quantity of medication needed?
3. Does data exist to support stability of the medication in the reformulated form?
4. Will the medication cause harm to the animal in the reformulated form?
5. Work involved?
6. Can the product be compounded safely?
Fees for compounding depend on the complexity of the compound, plus cost of medications and supplies utilized. quoted from here
