The Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says there is a new focus on the quality and safety, reported by BloomerBoomer.com

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) February 20, 2014
This week, BloomerBoomer.com looks at something that is old but is resurrecting again and coming to life. What we are talking about are compounding pharmacies. A new report from The Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says there is a new focus on the quality and safety of those places. Compounding has become a hot topic. It’s where prescription drugs are tailored to meet the needs of individual patients and is often used to obtain drug combinations or preparations that would not otherwise be available. It has also come under increased scrutiny in recent years following a 2012 meningitis outbreak that resulted in 64 deaths.
While on the topic of pharmacy, a proposal is working through Congress and Medicare that would change the so called Preferred Pharmacy network. If approved in 2015 it would allow more pharmacies to offer a the lowest or preferred rate on prescription drugs. It would also allow small community pharmacies to compete against the price offered by the big box stores.
