OIG: Hospitals Increased Compounder Oversight, Capacity After Out break


Hospitals are seeking more product quality information from outside compounding pharmacies and expanding their ability to produce sterile products in-house following a deadly meningitis outbreak tied to a large-scale compounder, according to a report from HHS' watchdog agency released Thursday (April 11). The Office of the Inspector General review also found that drug shortages, a need for products with a longer shelf life, and difficulty in complying with U.S. Pharmacopeia standards have led hospitals to seek high-risk compounded products from out-of-state pharmacies.715 words
