Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the important Federal statutes and regulations regarding dispensing controlled dangerous substances.
  2. Identify the common and not so common ways controlled dangerous substances are diverted in the hospital and retail setting.
  3. Identify strategies to develop a multi-mode monitoring plan to prevent drug diversion.
  4. Review protocols to deal with DEA and state agencies when diversion occurs. 
  5. Discuss the impact of state controlled dangerous substances reporting programs using the New Jersey PMP as an example.
  6. Discuss the legal implications -- administrative, civil and/or criminal -- for diversion with illustrations from actual cases.
