Second Question of the Day February 22, 2017 Current Federal Statutory Law does not address and many argue it does not permit compounding of animal drugs from bulk drug substances. The FDA, however, has previously recognized that there are limited circumstances when an animal drug compounded from bulk drug substances may be an appropriate treatment option. This recognition has been done in FDA guidance (see draft “Guidance for Industry (GFI) #230, Compounding Animal Drugs from Bulk Drug Substances.” ). With President Trump's executive order limiting regulations what does this mean for the future of animal drug compounding?
