Leaders of Texas Pharmacy Organizations to Meet to Plan for 2015 Legislative Session

Top elected and staff leaders of all Texas pharmacy organizations will be participating in the second Texas Pharmacy Summit on August 11 in the State Capitol Building in Austin. The initial Summit was held in February. The Texas Pharmacy Practice Coalition (TPPC) again is the host of this event.

The August meeting will include a dialogue with recently named Chair of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee, Senator Charles Schwertner, R.Ph., M.D. (R-Georgetown). Discussions also will take place with Gay Dodson, R.Ph., executive director of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, to discuss TSBP’s legislative issues and needs.

"Getting the pharmacist leaders together with the chief executive officers and various lobbyists of each pharmacy organization in the State is a key in establishing a united plan of action for the 2015 session of the Texas Legislature,” said Paul Davis, former TPA and TSHP Executive Director, who has been asked to serve as moderator.

Representatives from the Alliance of Independent Pharmacists of Texas (AIP), the Texas Federation of Drug Stores (TFDS), the Texas Independent Pharmacies Association (TxIPA), the Texas Pharmacy Association (TPA), the Texas Pharmacy Business Council (TPBC), the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP), and Texas TruCare Pharmacies have been invited to share their plans and discuss collaboration regarding important public policy issues.

The host, TPPC, was formed nearly 20 years ago, and is composed of TFDS, TPA and TSHP
