Tenth Question of the Day July 8, 2014 How do we know how effective compounded veterinary preparations are? If they are patient-specific and the compounding pharmacists is mixing up compounded preparations until one finally works to treat a cat's infection on that particular cat who is studying the long term effects on the animal? Who is studying whether that same preparation will work on another cat? Who is studying and keeping track of whether two years later the same ear infection reoccurs and the same compounded preparation is used and doesn't work the second time? Isn't there still very much that is unknown about compounded prepartions used on animals and the long term effects not just on the animal but on how it may or may not effect humans whether it is because it is a food producing animal or just the resistence it maybe creating?
