Sixth Question of the Day July 15, 2014 Does the compounding world understand what a patent does and does not mean in the legal world? You can file and obtain a patent to do something, but that does not make it legal to do that act. In other words, you obtain a patent and the rights, but you still have multiples laws you must comply with if you wish to make your product. Receiving a patent on a compounded medication does not make it legal to produce that medications if other laws and rules say that you cannot.
