PCAST Stops Short Of Endorsing New Animal Antibiotic Course For FDA


A forthcoming White House report will recognize that agriculture uses of antibiotics contribute to resistance in humans and say FDA's phase-out of subtherapeutic antibiotic uses should be monitored, but will not request the agency beef up its policies, presidential advisors said Friday (July 11). The antibiotic resistance report, which will focus on surveillance, stewardship and development, otherwise will endorse a limited population approval pathway for human drugs, more coordination across federal agencies, and increased surveillance at the state and local level.
