It is correct that outsourcing facilities will not be part of our network as they may or may not be patient-specific based on individuated prescriptions. The UCN network will focus only on pharmacies that dispense based on individual, valid patient prescriptions. Pharmacies that offer both sterile and non-sterile compounding will be eligible for network contracting regarding non-sterile services only. The requirements for sterile compounding contracting are much more extensive and may be considered as an option in the future.
The criteria for membership are based on requirements that the pharmacy be independently accredited and meet rigorous safety, quality, transparency, and responsible marketing standards. If a pharmacy believes they might be eligible and contacts us, we may discuss the specific criteria and their potential eligibility with them confidentially. Costs associated with membership are also not publically disclosed, but again can be discussed with viable potential members confidentially who contact us.
The ‘1 percent’ is not necessarily a precise number – especially considering there is not even a definitive figure for the total number of compounding pharmacies in the marketplace – but rather a general characterization of the type of members we are looking for and will accept into the network – elite compounding pharmacies who meet our strict criteria. There is not necessarily a hard cap on the number of pharmacies we would accept at this time, but we anticipate there could be as UCN evolves.
We are not at the point of disclosing pharmacies that are currently in the network. A number are still going through the due diligence process, but UCN anticipates announcing its charter members soon.
