Fifth Question of the Day July 10, 2014 Should health care benefit plans require written documentation from doctors and pharmacists before they will reimburse for compounded medications? In other words should they require a sworn statement that commerically available drugs have been tried and don't work, can't be used and for what reasons, etc.? This would allow those who truly need compounded medications to receive them, but prevent some of the fraud and abuse although there will still be doctors and pharmacists who provide the documentation in cases where the rules and regulations have not been followed?
