Editorial Pet Safety Is Vets' Primary Concern


I would like to address the July 23 editorial "Pet Meds A Federal Issue?" As veterinarians, we do support our clients' right to obtain medications as economically as possible, and we spend a great deal of our time helping clients make good cost-benefit decisions about their pets' care on a daily basis.

We feel that Internet pharmacies have done a phenomenal job informing consumers about their right to ask for prescriptions, at no cost to the taxpayer. We write prescriptions for our clients every day. Sometimes there is a financial benefit to seeking medications from commercial pharmacies, but not uncommonly, clients return complaining that the cost is no different, or more than their veterinarian was able to charge.
