Legislation aimed at protecting patients who get drugs made at compounding centers will be taking effect this week, thanks to a year-long effort to boost the state Board of Registration in Pharmacy's budget and increase training efforts.According to legislators behind the bill, which the governor will likely sign Thursday, funding allocations to increase training and ramp up resources have been in place since last year, with the budget jumping from $182,623 in the 2013 fiscal year to $1.3 million in the last fiscal year, which wrapped up on June 30. A similar amount has been set aside for this year.
“It was essential that we have it enacted immediately, identifying who is in the compounding business and what are they doing,” said Rep. , a democrat who co-chairs the Legislature's public health committee.
