LIBRARY
• Pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) must ensure that the pharmacy’s
library is complete, with all up-to-date hardcopy and/or electronic
references.
• PIC must ensure that pharmacy staff is able to access all references
at all times, including electronic references.
ENVIRONMENT
• PIC must ensure that the pharmacy is orderly and clean, including
the sink, compounding areas, and measuring tools.
• PIC must ensure that the pharmacy has policies/procedures relating
to security which assure effective controls against theft or diversion
of drugs.
LABELING
• PIC must ensure that prescription labels are complete, including:
o beyond-use-date; and
o the statement: “Do not flush unused medications or pour down
a sink or drain.”
PATIENT COUNSELING
• PIC must ensure that all patients presenting a new prescription
receive verbal counseling from a pharmacist and that a pharmacist
or pharmacy technician/trainee offers counseling to all patients
obtaining refills
