US Congressman Checks Out Compounding Pharmacy Before Senate Vote

Flint-based U.S. House Reprepresentative Dan Kildee visited a Saginaw compounding pharmacy Friday ahead of an expected Senate vote on a bill increasing industry regulations. Kildee says he appreciated the opportunity to tour Healthway Compounding Pharmacy and learn more about the potential impact of legislation on local business. He says he was impressed by the company's staff and safety policies.

The bill increases FDA control over custom drug facilities following last year's multi-state meningitis outbreak that was traced back to a Massachusetts custom manufacturer.

Healthway Compounding Pharmacy President Michael Collins says Senate Bill 959 would do more harm than good. Collins says the business provides custom pharmaceutical solutions including chronic pain management and hormonal complications related to pre-term labor, as well as veterinary.
