California Pharmacy Association Position on Compounding


2013-38 Compounding
The California Pharmacists Association supports:
1. State regulations and/or policies to ensure the continuation and stability of the professional
practice known as pharmaceutical compounding;
2. The authority of the state boards of pharmacy to have exclusive jurisdiction over the practice of
pharmacy, including pharmaceutical compounding;
3. All compounded medications properly prepared by pharmacists upon exact orders by prescribers
for specific patients are to be considered legal legend prescription products in all respects; and
4. Any changes necessary in federal law that would enable pharmacists to extemporaneously
compound drug products.
