Tinton Falls compounding pharmacy to remain closed another 2 weeks amid mold investigation

A Tinton Falls-based compounding pharmacy will remain shuttered for another two weeks after having alreadyrecalled all its drugs when mold was reported in five bags of magnesium sulfate products, the state Board of Pharmacy announced today.
Med Prep Consulting Inc. agreed to extend its voluntary consent order with the state — it was set to expire today — which had halted all operations at the 20-year-old business.
The extension will keep Med Prep closed until at least April 5, while state authorities continue to investigate the root cause of the contamination, according to the Division of Consumer Affairs, which oversees the Board of Pharmacy. Also involved in the investigation are the state Department of Health, federal Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
