Massachusetts Close to Completing Surprise Inspections of Compounding Pharmacies, FDA Joins Investigation of One Pharmacy

 Topics: Compounding
Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality inspectors in Massachusetts are close to completing a round of surprise inspections of compounding pharmacies and FDA inspectors have also begun inspecting one of the pharmacies. Dr Madeleine Biondolillo, director of the bureau, stated that 38 pharmacies in Massachusetts indicated that they practice sterile compounding, which was the focus of the inspections. Four such compounding pharmacies have been issued cease and desist orders since the inspections began, reports Boston.com. Regulators determined that one of the pharmacies inspected was engaged in practices that fell under the jurisdiction of FDA and the agency has joined Massachusetts officials in an investigation.
