Sen. Montigny Questions Compounding Pharmacy Oversight

By Taylor Cormier Yesterday

New Bedford State Senator Mark Montigny is calling for federal oversight of compounding pharmacies in Massachusetts.
Senator Montigny, Chairman of the Post Audit and Oversight Committee attended the latest hearing over rules governing the compounding industry.
The recent outbreak of fungal meningitis stemming from a Massachusetts pharmacy has sparked a statewide inspection of compounding pharmacies.
Montigny tells WBSM News several improvements need to be made to the compounding pharmacy industry.
Montigny challenged a lobbyist in Monday night’s hearing, asking why the group wants the state to remain in charge of the pharmacies instead of federal oversight. David Miller of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists says his group is willing to fight any legislation that would shift oversight from a state level to a federal level
